The plant blew a cap off of our steam header late Friday night Saturday morning. This caused the plant to go dark and loss of the boilers. The header was repaired and we where able to get a boiler operational for heat reasons. At this time we are producing in one plant. I have been told the mine will be idled till Wednesday but that could change. If anyone that showed up for there shift that had not been notified does not receive show up pay for that day please let a steward know. I will pass any information I get on to the membership.

Today the Eboard received a formal albeit verbal request from the company to freeze our next years pay raise. At this point we have more questions than answers. We are supposed to be getting some information from the company by weeks end. I assure you that the information will be brought to the membership, and then the membership will decide the path forward. I’m not sure when meetings will take place, look for postings. The regular union meeting is Thursday the 19th.

Union meeting tomorrow the 16th at the hall. We will be discussing alternate shifts for heavy equipment operations.

So I got the official word from the company today that everyone will be coming back as planned. Surface will be back on the 20th and the mine will be back in the 26th or when ever there next shift is after that. The company will contact everyone to notify them. Hopefully this is the end of this. Sales look ok for the future.

Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,

Today’s letter is definitely a little more upbeat than the last few. Today we where told that our projected sales have gone up for the month of May.  That will be enough to keep both plants running for now.  Please keep in mind that this is an extremely fluid situation, and just because we have good news today does not mean that it can’t turn around for the worse tomorrow.
