Call to Order

President Czappa called the meeting to order at 7pm at the Labor Hall. 11 members were present, including all Officers.

Reading of the Minutes

President Czappa called the regular monthly meeting to order at 7pm at the Labor Hall. 25 members were present. All Officers were present.

Secretary Lieber read a letter from USW International President Thomas Conway urging our support to save our shipbuilding industry. We had a letter asking for donations for Port Edwards football, and a letter from A-Jays Disc Jockey for our upcoming holiday party. 

Repinski motion to accept minutes as read, gustin second, motion carried.

 

Application for New Members

Applicatoins received for 5 new members: Chad Peterson, Adam Hintz, Dan Karl, Keith Swenson, and Joshua Strunk. Bray motion, Gustin second to waive new membership fees. Motion carried.  New members are Erich Edelblute and Tyler Smith. 3 members retired: David Atkinson, Michael Stratton, and Alan Yenter. 223 members in good standing. 2 non-members: Josiah Brandt and Justin Derezinski.

 

Communication and Bills

-Steward Training and Grievance Handling Class. October 31, 2023. 443 Scott Street, Ripon, WI. Registration from 8-9am, class from 9am-5pm. $30/participant.

Bray motion to send up to 3, Carlson Second. Motion carried

Treasurer’s Report

Bray read a detailed report of income and expenses, with an ending balance of $17,728.79 and savings of $200,062.72.

Informational meetings were requested and held prior to voting

A-Jays Disc Jockey Service was renewed for our upcoming holiday party

Corporate will be giving ratification bonus on Sept 21 check. Emailed Frank Hardee to ask why they can’t issue it on a separate check

 

Bonnie-motion that any union member wanting to attend a paid Women of Steel conference or event has to have attended one unpaid committee meeting, has to have attended two Union Meetings, and has to have volunteered in a project or event for Local 59 in the last rolling calendar year.

Repinski-would that need to be in our bylaws?

Carlson-To get in our bylaws, it needs to come up at two meetings and be approved by the international.

 

Bonnie-March 8 got to go to first WOS meeting since covid. Why was Julie running the meeting when we have a not-retired coordinator?

Bonnie- Motion that Any woman of steel coordinator or Women of Steel District Leader wanting to attend a paid Women of Steel conference or event has to have attended two Union Meetings, has to have volunteered in a project or event for Local 59 in the last rolling calendar year and the must also petition the e-board and the union body to get a motion to go to any paid women of steel event. Gustin Second

 

Pam-talk of any future hiring?

Cindy-not at the moment with orders being down.

Pam-with wood yard being its own entity, in new contract, existing crane operators are grandfathered, would they be able to give up their grandfathered status and go to the yard boss position without forcing other grandfathered crane operators to do that progression?

Lieber-I imagine they would have no issue with that because it is their LOP going forward.

 

Gustin-do we have call-in procedures for 4-on 4-off. Secretary Lieber located rules in email and forwarded.

Gustin-do people who worked on July 3&4 get pyramiding?

 

Bonnie-

Felt slighted by our Coordinator while building floats at my home. Recusing myself from Women of Steel.

 

Pam-ETP did not receive results of vote
