Supporting Cleveland cliffs purchase of us steel

Break

Lourenco Goncalves

-does not work for his shareholders, but works for the people

-if people are not taken care of, they will not take care of the company

US Steel wanted him to sign a NDA for the acquisition

When you walk into a steel mill, you must disconnect from the outside. The measures of the outside are not the same as our measures inside the mill. Focus on task at hand, pay attention to the people next to you.

Cleveland cliffs has a long tradition

Not perfect, but proud of not having real severe accidents

TRIR

Trust was diminished because middle management was instructed to act like a cop who wanted to give out traffic tickets

Fix the quasi accidents to avoid the serious accidents

No police cop trying to give tickets to people trying to do their jobs

Next acquisition-trir was higher. Equipment was neglected. Workplace environment neglected. Lead to higher accident rate.

Next acquisition, trir was above 10. “that’s the way it is in the scrap business” now its down to 2.5

Promote from within. Not going to make profits from not hiring and making people work a lot of overtime
