COVID-19 Interim Scrub Policy.

Kaiser permanente is providing scrubs for those employees who are providing care and support to patients who meet the criteria or have tested positive for covid-19.  

COVID-19 Interim Scrub Policy
Effective 3/27/2020
The policy applies to all employees who are employed by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals
and Health Plan, Inc (KFH/HP) and Permanente Medical Groups (PMGs)


COVID-19 Interim Policy:
We are providing Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute)
to physicians and employees providing care and support to patients who meet the
criteria for or have tested positive for COVID-19. This allocation to physicians and
employees is an addition to those individuals already included in their local scrub attire
policy.


Purpose:

-Define standards for the utilization of Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute)

-Define standard Supply Chain distribution of laundered Kaiser Permanente - issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) and maintenance of inventory supply and demand.

-Define standard Environmental Services pick-up of soiled Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute).

Policy Statement:
Due to the COVID-19 Crisis, Kaiser Permanente is responding to increased scrub
demand across the enterprise:

-We are providing Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) to physicians and employees providing care and support to patients who meet the criteria for or have tested positive for COVID-19. This allocation to physicians and employees is an addition to those individuals already included in their local scrub attire policy.

-Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) are not considered PPE.

-Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) will still be provided for personnel working in restricted and semi-restricted areas as per Scrub Attire Policy (may vary by region and local medical center)

-Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) ARE VOLUNTARY. Personal scrubs/uniforms may be worn.

-Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) MUST NEVER BE WORN OFF CAMPUS.

-Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) MUST NOT BE DISPOSED OR INCINERATED OR TAKEN HOME. All Kaiser Permanente- issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) should be returned to the appropriate linen bins.

-For COVID-19 response efforts, appropriate infection control standards are established which define the level of additional PPE attire (masks, face shield, etc.)

-This policy applies to all employees who are employed by the following entities:

-Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan, Inc. (together, KFH/HP); Page 2 of 3

The expanded group of eligible employees for Kaiser Permanente-issued scrubs (or equivalent garment substitute) include:

-Physicians, including intensivists, hospitalists, and Emergency Department

-Nursing staff, including patient care technicians

-Respiratory therapists

-Environmental Services (EVS) staff, cleaning areas of patients who meet the criteria for or have tested positive for COVID-19

-Lab

-Physical therapy and occupational therapy

-Patient care transporters

-Radiology technicians

-These physicians and employees are an addition to those already included in their local scrub attire policy (may vary by region and local facility).

Departments and Personnel Not approved For Employer Provided Scrubs

-Any request for scrubs from roles that are not on the list in the section above ‘Scope/Coverage’ of the policy will need to get approval from the Scrub Distribution Lead at their local facility.
