Local 5000 has learned of a fire that broke out aboard the M/V Roger Blough, of Key Lakes, Inc. 

Local 5000 has not had any official reports as to the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (steel.org) reports that in the week ending on December 5, 2020, domestic raw steel production was 1,579,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 71.4 percent. Production was 1,818,000 net tons in the week ending December 5, 2019 while the capability utilization then was 78.6 percent. The current week production represents a 13.1 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement between United Steelworkers Local 5000 and Interlake Leasing III has been ratified. This marks the end of the long process of negotiating and ratifying contracts from all six bargaining units this past year.
