Sarah Smith for Circuit JudgeWhile the annual holiday gift drive was something President Rains’ chapter financed and organized, support has also come from Associate Judge Sarah Smith. According to Rains, Smith has at times offered to pay for the postage and shipment of the supplies and has gone out of her way to help get them in the hands of our men and women overseas.  Sarah also serves as a Lt. Colonel in the Illinois National Guard  and supplied the names of the troops in Afghanistan who will soon be enjoying the boxes loaded with those hard to get treats that were donated by SOAR members for Christmas.

Two bus loads of delegates filled with curious labor leaders from around the globe crossed the river from the AFL-CIO October 2017 Convention in St Louis, arrived for a tour of the idled steel mill and a tour of the historic Tri Cities Labor Temple in Granite City.

November 23, 2016         With the assistance from SOAR Chapter members in Granite City, Illinois, Shirley Luffman has completed another leg of her ongoing mission. For 17 years now she has coordinated the shipment of bountiful boxes to troops serving overseas, with this year’s shipment directed to those currently deployed in Afghanistan.
