Education is one of the cornerstones of the United Steelworkers. An educated membership is a strong membership. USW does a great job putting together conferences and other trainings to educate our members. With the craziness that is 2020, unfortunately many scheduled events were canceled this year. In the absence of in-person events this year, USW has put together a Virtual Education Conference.

The Company and Local 310 are working together on a comprehensive safety project along with the help and guidance of William Holden, Director- Health, Safety, and Hygiene BSA, and Steve Sallman, USW International Safety and Health Dept. Two joint committees have been assembled that will deal with Lock Out-Tag Out (LOTO) and Machine guarding.

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Workers’ Compensation course at the University of Iowa Labor Center in Iowa City. It was two full days of classroom learning and was very valuable. I wanted to share just a little bit of what I brought back with the membership.
