Mitchell Van Braeckel, recipient of the USW Local 4120 Scholarship Award 2018

Ken Van Braeckel, Mitchell Van Braeckel (recipent of the United Steelworkers Local 4120 2018 Scholarship Award), Liz Cherry.

I am a first year student at the University of Guelph majoring in Software Engineering Co-op and minoring in Mathematics. I have always enjoyed challenging math problems and my interest in programming and design continued to grow as I got older.  Being awarded this scholarship helps me financially and allows me to pursue the many options in this field.  Growing up, I became well-versed with the campus through the many summer sports camps and events like College Royal, field trips, and Science Olympics that were hosted at the university.  After carefully considering my options, I chose the University of Guelph because it has a very good co-op system for my program and I already felt at home here on campus.  My first year has been a very rewarding experience and I look forward to continuing my studies.  I would like to thank the United Steelworkers for their support through this scholarship, allowing me to further my education.

Thank you,
Mitchell Van Braeckel
