On Monday, December 11th, the USW Hamilton Area Council held its annual Christmas meeting.

At this meeting our local, USW 9563, made donations to the following charities:

  • Hamilton Food Share
  • Wesley Urban Ministries
  • Challenger Baseball
  • Simcoe Food Bank
  • Erich's Cupboard
  • The United Way

These donations were approved by our members at the latest membership meetings and will certainly make a difference for a lot of people at this time of year. Community Matters to the United Steelworkers!

Hi Everyone,

We are aware that CLAC has started a campaign to try and get Conmed employees to leave the United Steelworkers and rejoin CLAC. Here is a brief history recap of the last two years for those who lived through it and for those who don’t know.

In 2021, the United Steelworkers Union (USW) was contacted by workers from Conmed as they were upset with the representation that they had received from their Union – CLAC. In response, the USW conducted an organizing campaign and the workers from Conmed voted to oust CLAC and bring in the USW as the bargaining agent.

Why become a Union Steward?

  • You will receive paid training including expenses for travel if necessary
  • You will have support from the United Steelworkers and the resources that we can provide
  • You will learn about employment legislation, and how to enforce the collective agreement
  • Participation by our members makes our Union stronger

If you like to help people, are organized and a good communicator, this might be for you!

We've had some members question how the retroactive lump sum was calculated that was received after our HLDAA award. The Employer provided the document attached below as an explanation.
