Dear Sisters and Brothers just an update on the unprecedented events unfolding in our union and our country as it pretains to Covid-19 or Coronavirus. We are trying to coordinate with our local union leaders and the companies to develope the best strategies to make sure that all of our members and their families are as safe as possible during this very difficult time and crisis. We are strongly urging the companies we have under contract to follow the protocals that have been developed by the CDC, the state and the federal government. Some of those requirements consist of making sure we are practicing cleanliness habits such as washing your hands not touching your face social distancing as much as possible, frenquently cleaning surfaces such as countertops in lunchrooms or breakrooms, cleaning restrooms, cleaning touch screens and any devices that are handled by our members. We are also discussing with the companies about issues if someone is coming to work the best ways to screen for possible displays of the virus. One of the ways that is a quick check is a tempature check. We are not sure if this will be used by all of the companies but it may be. If soneone is detected to have a high tempature 100 degrees or higher that person should immeadiatley go home and contact their primary physician or nurse on call to determine their next steps. We are also asking our companies to also adhere to the (Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act) of the Families First Coronavirus Recovery Act. We are urging all of our members to be vigilant and as safe as you can be for yourselves and your families. WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER AND TOGETHER WE WILL MAKE IT, IN SOLIDARITY TOM Z.

As you all know, healthcare workers and first responders across the United States and Canada are combating this pandemic at the frontline. There’s a way we can help right now.
Many of you have already worked with your employer to provide extra personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, gloves, eye goggles and more to local organizations in need. We encourage all local unions to reach out to their employers to help if you can.
Also, each state has a State Emergency Operation Centers (SEOC) that is always willing to collect essential equipment. You can find your SEOC by contacting your State Department of Public Safety, Department of Emergency Management or similar agency.
For more information on our union’s resources, including help for workers whose jobs are affected by Covid-19, please visit usw.org/covid19, which we are updating regularly.
Thanks for all you do. Please stay safe and healthy.
