We are the United Steelworkers, North America’s largest industrial union. We’re 1.2 million members and retirees strong in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. We proudly represent men and women who work in nearly every industry there is.
Dear Sisters and Brothers just an update on the unprecedented events unfolding in our union and our country as it pretains to Covid-19 or Coronavirus. We are trying to coordinate with our local union leaders and the companies to develope the best strategies to make sure that all of our members and their families are as safe as possible during this very difficult time and crisis. We are strongly urging the companies we have under contract to follow the protocals that have been developed by the CDC, the state and the federal government. Some of those requirements consist of making sure we are practicing the best cleanliness habits such as washing your hands not touching your face social distancing as much as possible, frenquently cleaning surfaces such as countertops in lunchrooms or breakrooms, cleaning restrooms, cleaning touch screens and any devices that are handled by our members. We are also discussing with the companies about issues if someone is coming to work the best ways to screen for possible displays of the virus. One of the ways that is a quick check is a tempature check. We are not sure if this will be used by all of the companies but it may be. If someone has their tempature taken and the reading is 100.4 or above that person should immeadiatley go home and contact their primary physician or nurse on call to determine their next steps. We are also asking our companies to also adhere to the (Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act) of the Families First Coronavirus Recovery Act. We are urging all of our members to be vigilant and as safe as you can be for yourselves and your families. WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER AND TOGETHER WE WILL MAKE IT, IN SOLIDARITY TOM Z.

I was informed this afternoon that if employees are on a full week vacation or more they will be required to report back through medical. Employees can contact the medical department by phone to get cleared prior to the start of your shift or otherwise get direction from medical.( 563-459-2342) Your card will be shut off until you are cleared through medical. ILLINOIS RESIDENTS STILL NEED TO REPORT TO WORK AS USUAL.I understand all of the hype today about "shelter in place" but it was clear on the press conference people will still be able to be out and about for food, medical needs, and work.I appreciate everyone's patience as this is an ever changing process and it is impossible to respond to every rumor and Facebook post.In Solidarity,Brad GrevePresident USW Local 105

Protecting Our Nation's Workers Information on emergency legislative responses to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our nation is facing an unprecedented crisis. As Congress debates measures to address the health and economic concerns that impact all of us, our union is working diligently to make sure we have a voice in that process. So far, two bills have passed through the House and Senate, and both are now signed into law.
Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act – This is an emergency spending bill that was signed into law March 6. It allocates $8.3 billion for help to fund vaccine development, treatment, and public health efforts. You can find a breakdown of where that money is going HERE.
Families First Coronavirus Response Act– This is a critical first step in making sure working people facing serious health and financial risks receive the assistance we need.
Provides for Free COVID-19 Testing – Private insurance companies and government programs like Medicaid/Medicare/TRICARE are now required to cover testing of COVID-19 with no cost and no cost-sharing, and reimburse labs for testing of the uninsured.
Implements Emergency Paid Sick Leave – Employers having less than 500 employees are now required to provide up to 80 hours of paid sick leave at the employee’s regular pay for quarantine, treatment or care of a family member related to the coronavirus.
Provides for Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion – This legislation ensures 12 weeks of protected job leave for workers to care for a child whose school or child care facility is closed as a result of the coronavirus.
Provides Additional Resources for Unemployment Insurance – An additional $1 billion in 2020 for emergency administration grants will be available to states for activities related to processing and paying unemployment...

For those inquiring to why there have been no updates to the workschedule on here its because we no longer recieve a weekly schedule. All but about 9 employees on the Vibration control side have returned to work and 50% of the workforce in the mill room. The mill room numbers is expected to remain the same for atleast a couple more weeks. The over all picture is looking very promising with Ford planning looking to be at capacity soon and the acquisition of future buisness.
We will resume having monthly Executive Board, Stewards and regular union meetings this month. They will be taking place upstairs where we have room to observe social distancing. The date for the E Board and Stewards will be on 6/19/2020 with the regular meeting on 6/25/2020. Hope to see you all there!
Thank You! God Bless and Be Safe!
5/14/2020
Per our meeting 5/14/2020 at 10:00am.
Ford planning is calling for production to be back to normal the week of 6/8/2020 with no shut down period in July. Keep in mind this is just planning and could be altered at any time. With that, the plant will be adding a skeleton crew for 2nd and 3rd shifts to cover any pop-up order changes that could arise.
For those that take your breaks at the end of the shifts. You will not be able to take breaks the last hour of your shift in the cafeteria so that social distancing can be honored.
Voluntary layoffs are on schedule to begin the week of 5/25/2020 but we will be meeting the morning of Wednesday the 20th to finalize numbers and start making calls. Please be near your phones Wednesday and Thursday so that you may be informed of scheduling needs.
Schedule for the week of 5/18/2020 and additional information will be in the links at the bottom of this page.
Thank You. God Bless and Be Safe!!!
5/6/2020
Per our meeting 5/6/2020 at 10:00am.
Not much has changed from last week other than we will continue scheduling on a week to week basis as we are pushing our return to work and voluntary lay-off date to at least May 25th. You will still need to make a final decision and respond to DeAnn by this Friday May 8th if you are wanting to be considered for the 90-day voluntary lay-off.
1510 mixing is posted as full but that is to include the employees that already stated they wanted to return. No other employees are to be mandated.
Our next meeting with the company is 5/14/2020 at 10:00am and we will be updating schedules and info after.
As a result of the Coronavirus the Union and company are entering in a joint agreement to allow our members flexibility, added safety, and peace of mind during the pandemic.
The company will be offering temporary layoffs for all members for a minimum of a 2 week period. You will be required to fill out an Emergency Pandemic Temporary Layoff form. This period may be extended as long as the Emergency Pandemic Temporary Layoffs are being offered. It is the members responsibility to give the company 1 week notice of their intent to return to work. This notice shall be in writing at the time of layoff as stated on the EPT layoff form or via email to [email protected]. The Union will be immediately notified of all EPT layoffs and requests to return to work. The company may recall you from layoff earlier than agreed upon if the business needs demand or the EPT layoffs are no longer being offered.
The EPT layoff agreement will be in effect until March 31st and can be extended with mutual agreement between the company and Union for the following month and will be reviewed before the last work day of each extended month to determine if an extension is possible.
Members returning from layoff will be returned to their job class, department, and shift. Members wanting to return to work, if no work is available because of the effects of the pandemic, will follow the standard job reduction/layoff procedure as stated in the contract.
The company and Union are entering this agreement with the understanding that all EPT layoffs are on a temporary basis and the company has no intent at this time of reducing the workforce permanently. These EPT Layoffs are being offered in lieu of personal leaves of absence to allow our members to claim unemployment benefits related to the pandemic relief effort. If additional State or Federal benefits would become available members on an EPT layoff would be eligible to apply.
Employees electing the temporary layoff will receive a COBRA notification which will begin in the month of April depending on when the layoff is elected. If they wish to continue their coverage, they will be able to pay their portion of the premium directly to Benefits. They do have coverage through the end of March already.Further questions about benefits continuation can be directed to Madeline Stollfus or Rosanne Conard.
