In this meeting we were told that business will continue as usual, The Union contract will be upheld through the term of the agreement, All pensions, Retirements and contracts will be absorbed by USS and will be upheld. The company said that UPI will continue to be a stand alone company and the employees should not see any changes. The UPI name will stay the same for the foreseeable future as US Steel feels we have set a Legacy and has become name stay throughout the West Coast Steel industry. UPI leadership hope that their is a possibility of new 3rd party vendors for hot bands and plan to utilize the dock terminal more as they feel it is under utilized. We will be getting a large trial of hot bands from Big River in the near future. UPI should see more support from US Steel in different aspects of the business that will be a benefit so we all need to continue to work safe.
