Training provided for Department of Energy (DOE) workers includes Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), 10 CFR 851 Final Rule A and Radiation Worker courses. HAZWOPER courses are also available for other non-DOE workers who handle, store, recover and process hazardous materials.

    HAZWOPER

The USWTMC offers HAZWOPER 40-, 24- and eight-hour courses.

The 40-hour course is specifically designed to meet the requirements in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120.

OSHA CFR 1910.120 is for workers who are involved in clean-up operations, voluntary clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal or treatment of hazardous substances or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. The 24-hour course covers broad issues pertaining to the hazard recognition at work sites. OSHA developed the HAZWOPER requirements to provide workers with the important information they need to work at and around the hazardous sites, and also devised extensive regulations to ensure their safety and health. The eight-hour course is designed to meet the requirements in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for annual refresher training, for workers who may be assigned the work mentioned above.

Hazardous Disaster Preparedness (HDP) training focuses on emergency response and control.

The USWTMC supports a cadre of Specialized Emergency Response Trainers, or SERTs. The SERTs respond in the face of natural or manmade disasters in order to provide health, safety and environmental training to those who are affected by the disasters.

HDP training provided by the USWTMC also includes Infectious Diseases at Work, or other material through the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) such as Mold Clean-Up and Treatment: Health and Safety Essentials for Workers, Volunteers and Homeowners.

HWW training also includes Process Safety Management (PSM).

The USWTMC offers multiple courses under OSHA.

    OSHA Outreach Training

The USWTMC offers OSHA Outreach 10- and 30-hour courses in General Industry and Construction.

The OSHA Outreach General Industry and Construction 10- and 30-hour courses help to provide all workers with basic safety and health awareness. The Outreach courses will introduce participants to OSHA policies, procedures, standards and principles covered under OSHA’s general industry and  construction standards. Upon the successful completion of an OSHA Outreach 10- or 30-hour course, each participant will be given a course completion card issued by the U.S. Department of Labor.

    OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Training

The Center also offers OSHA OTI General Industry and Construction training under the umbrella of the University of Cincinnati.

The OSHA General Industry 511 and OSHA Construction 510 courses are the highest technical safety training offered by the OTI in the General Industry and Construction disciplines. These courses cover OSHA policies, regulations and standards in more depth and scope than outreach programs, with an emphasis on OSHA standards and regulations to assist participants in the measurement and correction of unsafe working conditions. The OSHA 511 and 510 also serve as a prerequisite for OSHA OTI train-the-trainer courses in General Industry (OSHA 501) and Construction (OSHA 500). Upon successful completion of any OTI courses, each participant will be issued the proper certificate and/or card from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The USWTMC also offers OSHA 7600: Disaster Site Worker Outreach training.

OSHA training is available in English and Spanish.
