We are the United Steelworkers, North America’s largest industrial union. We’re 1.2 million members and retirees strong in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. We proudly represent men and women who work in nearly every industry there is.
Our union is stronger when Steelworker retirees are involved as activists, advocates and volunteers, which is why we established the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) in 1985. With the establishment of SOAR, our union solidified its focus on the unique issues impacting USW retirees and their spouses. Further, SOAR has been engaged in countless efforts to assure security for current and future generations of retirees regardless of whether they belong to a union or not.
For only $1 every month, SOAR members receive our quarterly newsletter in the mail, along with a SOAR Chapter membership card and a new member kit that contains a lapel pin, informational pamphlets and more. Active USW Member, age 45 or over can also join.
In addition to receiving regular updates about how to stay engaged in our union’s efforts to improve the lives of workers and our communities, SOAR members can access the Union Plus Benefits Program through the AFL-CIO. Union Plus offers unique savings and benefits including discounts on AT&T, entertainment, hotels, flights and car rentals. Union Plus' mortgage program can even assist you and your children with buying or refinancing your home. Find out more about the Union Plus Benefits Program at www.unionplus.org/usw
How can you become a SOAR Chapter member?
SOAR membership is only $1 every month ($12 per year) for retired USW members or like-minded retirees. Spouses and surviving spouses of USW retirees can join for just $3 per year.*

The remaining scheduled Town Hall meetings in the District are being postponed until further notice due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The safety and health of our members and staff is important and we can’t put anyone at risk. I will ask Cathy to coordinate with Terri Pierce, Tiffany Olson and Lori Bookwood to get the postponement announced on our District 11 and Women Of Steel Facebook pages and the USW website. I’m asking each of the staff reps that service local unions in Montana, Wyoming, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas and Missouri to notify the local union leadership in your assignment so they can be aware of these postponements. Please let me know if you have any questions. In Solidarity.

MARCH 19, 2020 - MARCH 19, 2020
The most important work we do as a union involves bargaining and enforcing good contracts to secure fair wages, dependable benefits, and safe working conditions. However, whether we like it or not, workplace health and safety, wage and overtime regulations, retirement security, even our right to organize and bargain collectively, are all tied to local, state, and federal laws and the people making them.
As we move into 2020, we want to hear about the issues that matter most to you. That’s why we’re holding a series of town hall meetings across the country. We’ll have a conversation about your priorities and share some of our union’s work to impact government decisions.
