January 8, 2020 - I would first like to welcome everyone back from what I hope was a safe and happy holiday season and New Year. It was pleasure meeting many of you at Unit meetings and 75th Anniversary celebrations late last year in areas such as Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Langley, Chilliwack, Prince George and Kelowna. I will be trying to get to more Unit meetings across Canada over the next few months to meet more members and Unit officials.
Changes to the Executive Board
I wish to advise everyone that several changes to the National Executive Board are in effect as of today.
The USW has a tradition of hiring Staff Representatives from amongst its members who have shown themselves to be dedicated Local Union activists. Canadian National Director Ken Neumann has asked your Regional Executive Officer for British Columbia Jayson Little to accept a position as a USW Staff Representative. Jayson has agreed to do so. He will be working directly for and reporting to Director Neumann but will also interact with other USW staff and Directors such as Director Steve Hunt of District 3. Brother Little will be assigned to the Local 1944 Burnaby office to assist the Local and be the link to all the resources the USW has to offer. I look forward to working with Brother Little in his new role.
Replacing Brother Little as the new Regional Executive Officer, British Columbia, will be Corey Mandryk. Brother Mandryk has demonstrated outstanding activism throughout the years, and graduated from the Leadership Development Program in 2019. Local 1944 is proud to welcome him as a new member on the Executive Board.
Kim Woodroffe has resigned from her position as Trustee. We thank Sister Woodroffe for all the work that she contributed since taking on this role in 2015. Jenn Dunsmore-Turner, Chair of Unit 213 and currently a student of the Leadership Development Program, has been appointed to take on the position. It gives us great pleasure to welcome this all-around activist as our new Trustee.
The appointments of Brother Mandryk and Sister Dunsmore-Turner have been made through the unanimous recommendation and endorsement of the Local 1944 Executive Board.
Le 8 janvier 2020 - Tout d’abord, je tiens à souhaiter un bon retour à tout le monde après ce qui, je l’espère, fut un temps des fêtes passé en toute sécurité et dans la joie, ainsi qu’une bonne nouvelle année. Ce fut un plaisir de rencontrer bon nombre d’entre vous lors des assemblées d’Unité et des célébrations du 75e anniversaire à la fin de l’année dernière, que ce soit à Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Langley, Chilliwack, Prince George ou Kelowna. Je m’efforcerai de participer à plus d’assemblées d’unités à travers le Canada au cours des prochains mois, et ce afin de rencontrer plus de membres et de responsables d’unités.
Changements au sein du Bureau exécutif
Je tiens à informer tout le monde que plusieurs changements au sein du Bureau exécutif national entrent en vigueur aujourd’hui.
Le Syndicat des Métallos a pour tradition d’embaucher des représentants syndicaux parmi les membres qui se sont révélés être des militants dévoués au sein de leur section locale. Le Directeur national pour le Canada, Ken Neumann, a proposé à votre Dirigeant exécutif régional de la Colombie-Britannique, Jayson Little, un poste de représentant syndical, que Jayson a accepté. Il travaillera pour le Directeur Neumann et répondra directement à celui-ci, tout en collaborant avec d’autres employés et directeurs du Syndicat des Métallos tels que Steve Hunt, Directeur du District 3. Le confrère Little sera affecté aux bureaux de la Section locale 1944 à Burnaby pour assister la section locale et assurer le lien avec toutes les ressources que les Métallos ont à offrir. J’ai hâte de collaborer avec le confrère Little dans la prise de son nouveau rôle.
Corey Mandryk remplacera le confrère Little en tant que nouveau Dirigeant exécutif régional de la Colombie-Britannique. Diplômé du Programme de perfectionnement en leadership en 2019, le confrère Mandryk a fait preuve d’un militantisme exceptionnel au fil des ans. La Section locale 1944 est fière de l’accueillir au sein du Bureau exécutif.
Kim Woodroffe a démissionné de son poste de Syndic. Nous la remercions pour tout le travail qu’elle a accompli depuis qu’elle a débuté ce rôle en 2015. Jenn Dunsmore-Turner, Présidente de l’Unité 213 et actuellement étudiante du Programme de développement en leadership, a été nommée au poste de Syndic, et c’est avec grand plaisir que nous souhaitons la bienvenue à cette militante complète.
Les nominations du confrère Mandryk et de la consœur Dunsmore-Turner ont été faites sur recommandation et approbation unanimes du Bureau exécutif de la Section locale 1944.
