About United Steelworkers Local 9187
USW 9187 represents 375+ public sector employees at Stark County Job and Family Services(SCJFS). SCJFS is a triple combined agency that houses the counties Child Support, Children Services and Human Services Divisions. USW 9187 is part of the United Steelworkers District 1, which encompasses Ohio and Michigan.
United Steelworkers Local 9187 was founded April 28th, 1987. Upon formation, the membership elected Michael Ruby as the first president of our local.
Steelworkers are strong, we are proud, and we are here to fight for our members. When you think Steelworkers, public employees are not the first employees to come to mind. The United Steelworkers is a diverse Union representing employees from steel mills & rum distilleries to public employees and hospital workers. The fastest growing sectors of the USW are in healthcare and public sector jobs. Although our struggles as public employees may be different then private sector employees we must stick together and demand dignity and respect for all workers.We are the United Steelworkers, North America’s largest industrial union. We’re 1.2 million members and retirees strong in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. We proudly represent men and women who work in nearly every industry there is. Our members are leaders in your communities, in your work places, in our governments and more. We have a presence in the United Kingdom, Ireland, England, Scotland, Mexico and many other places around the world.
We believe in better. We stand up and fight back for better. We work for working families around the world.
