*2019 Negotiations Start up again on Sept. 23rd and 24th. Two more days went by. Company requested a mediator to help us along. It did seem to get us moving a little bit more. We have more dates set in October. The 10th,11th 21st-25th. Maybe we can close the deal. We are currently working under an extended contract.*

Our Midwest Medical unit will be voting on their tenative contract agreement on Sept. 26 at 5:30pm in Hall B of the Duluth Labor Temple. You have to be present to vote.

Congrats to our members at Midwest Medical who just voted overwhelming to accept the tentative agreement that their negotiating committee worked out with the company. Thanks to everyone who turned out and voted, and who supported the union during these tough negotiations!

En tant que militants syndicaux, nous sommes directement impliqués dans la lutte contre le changement climatique, qui aggravera les inégalités économiques, affectera nos emplois, et causera des dommages à nos familles et à nos communautés. Prenez sur votre temps libre pour rejoindre le mouvement et envoyez un message clair à ceux qui nous gouvernent : il est temps qu’ils en fassent plus pour sauver notre planète.
Votre participation à cette action est importante : elle communique le message que le mouvement syndical prend des mesures pour protéger l’avenir de la planète. Nous exhortons les gouvernements à élaborer des politiques climatiques qui garantissent une transition juste aux travailleurs, qui sont ou seront affectés par le changement climatique. Les travailleurs ne peuvent pas se permettre d’être divisés face au changement climatique.
« Les gouvernements fédéraux canadiens précédents et actuels ont constamment ignoré la crise climatique, a déclaré Donna Hokiro, Présidente par intérim de la Section locale 1944 des Métallos. Le 21 octobre, nous devons élire un gouvernement fédéral qui s’engage à protéger à la fois l’environnement et nos droits en tant que travailleurs. Nous ne pouvons pas faire de compromis sur l’une ou l’autre de ces deux priorités, et il est temps d’élire des dirigeants qui comprennent que ces questions vont de pair. »
« Soutenir une transition juste, c’est reconnaître que le changement climatique est un problème social et que la société devrait œuvrer de concert pour le résoudre. Les travailleurs de certains secteurs ou emplois ne devraient pas être punis pour leur travail », a déclaré Gil McGowan, Président de la Fédération du travail de l’Alberta.

Tomorrow, September 27, people around the world will march to join a truly global movement for the climate. As union activists, we are directly involved in addressing climate change, as it will increase economic inequalities, affect our jobs, hurt our families and communities. Please take on your free time to join in the movement, and send a clear message to our governments that it is time for them to do more to save our planet.
Your participation in this action is important: it sends the public message that the labour movement takes action to protect the future of the planet. We urge governments to develop climate policies that ensure a just transition for workers who are already or will be affected by climate change. Workers cannot afford to be divided in the face of climate change.
“Past and current Canadian Federal governments have constantly been ignoring the climate crisis,” said Donna Hokiro, Acting President. “On October 21, we need to elect a Federal government that commits to protecting the environment and our rights as workers. We cannot compromise on either of these two priorities, and it is time we elect leaders who understand that these issues go hand in hand.”
“Supporting a just transition means recognizing that climate change is a societal problem and society should work together to solve it – workers in certain industries or jobs shouldn’t be punished for the work they do,” said Gil McGowan, President of the Alberta Federation of Labour.”
