I am pleased to announce that we have established a Grievance Committee for Local 1944. The creation of this new Committee is a key component of our overall Strategic Plan that was developed by President Isabelle Miller with the assistance of District 3 Director, Steve Hunt and myself.
Thanks to USW District 3, the new Grievance Committee just completed two days of training on July 30-31, 2019, which the District provided without cost to the Local.
The mandate of the USW Local 1944 Grievance Committee is to support and enhance the Local’s grievance handling. The Committee will review grievances and determine whether they will proceed to arbitration. The Committee will work closely with Local Union Representatives, Unit Counsellors and Shop Stewards, USW Staff Representatives, and/or legal counsel as required. It also administers our new appeals process, monitors grievance and discipline patterns, and reports on its work.
In addition, the Grievance Committee will discuss and recommend what mentoring and training is needed for the Shop Stewards in your Unit. Shop Stewards will be provided with the tools so they are equipped to represent our members as best as possible.
The Grievance Committee is comprised of the assigned Local Union Representatives, the Local’s Table Officers, the USW Staff Representative assigned to our Local. The members assigned to the Grievance Committee are all experienced leaders and skilled at grievance handling.

J’ai le plaisir d’annoncer que nous avons créé un Comité des griefs pour la Section locale 1944. La création de ce nouveau Comité est un élément-clé de notre plan stratégique global élaboré par la Présidente Isabelle Miller, avec l’aide du Directeur du District 3, Steve Hunt, et moi-même.
Grâce au District 3 des Métallos, le nouveau Comité des griefs vient de terminer deux journées de formation les 30 et 31 juillet 2019, que le District a prodigués gratuitement à la Section locale.
Le Comité des griefs de la Section locale 1944 des Métallos a pour mandat de soutenir et d’améliorer le traitement des griefs par la Section locale. Le Comité examinera les griefs et déterminera s’ils seront soumis en arbitrage. Le comité travaillera en étroite collaboration avec les Représentants de la section locale, les Conseillers d’Unité et les délégués syndicaux, les Représentants du personnel des Métallos et / ou des conseillers juridiques, selon les besoins. Il administrera également notre nouvelle procédure d’appel, surveillera les tendances en matière de griefs et de discipline et rendra compte de ses travaux.
De plus, le Comité des griefs discutera et émettra des recommandations quant aux activités de mentorat et de formation nécessaires aux délégués syndicaux de votre Unité. Les délégués syndicaux bénéficieront d’outils pour être en mesure de représenter nos membres du mieux possible.
Le Comité des griefs est composé de Représentants désignés de la Section locale, des Officiers de la Section locale, et des Représentants du personnel des Métallos affectés à notre Section locale. Tous les membres assignés du Comité des griefs sont des dirigeants expérimentés et compétents en matière de règlement des griefs.
