    Local 1944's Grievance Committee reviews all grievances recommended for arbitration with the Local Union Representative and Unit Councellor, determine whether the matter should proceed, and whether additional support from District staff or legal counsel is needed. In addition, the Grievance Committee discusses and recommends what ongoing and additional training or mentoring is needed for the Officers and Local Union Representatives in terms of grievance handling and arbitration.

    Le mandat du Comité des griefs

    Le Comité des griefs a pour mandat de soutenir et améliorer la procédure de règlement des griefs. Le Comité examine les griefs et détermine si ceux-ci doivent être soumis à l’arbitrage. Le Comité travaille en étroite collaboration avec les Représentants de la Section locale, les Conseillers d’Unités, les permanents des Métallos et / ou des conseillers juridiques, selon les besoins. Le Comité des griefs administre également les appels, surveille l’évolution des griefs, évalue les besoins de formation supplémentaires et fait des rapports de ses travaux au Bureau exécutif.

    De plus, le Comité des griefs discute des recommandations en matière de traitement des griefs et d’arbitrage et recommande des mentions supplémentaires et continues nécessaires aux délégué(e)s syndicaux(-ales) de la Section locale. Il examine également la documentation relative aux griefs à tous les niveaux afin de dégager les tendances qui intéressent les employeurs.

    The Grievance Committee's Mandate

    The mandate of the Grievance Committee is to support and enhance the grievance procedure. The Committee reviews grievances and determines whether the grievance will proceed to arbitration. The Committee works closely with the Local Union Representative, the Unit Counsellor, USW Staff Representatives and/or legal counsel, as required. The Grievance Committee also administers appeals, monitors grievance patterns, assesses additional training needs and reports to the Executive Board on its work.

    In addition, the Grievance Committee discusses and recommends what ongoing and additional mentoring is needed for the stewards of the Local Union in terms of grievance handling and arbitration, and shall review grievance documentation at all levels to identify employer trends of interest.
