I am happy to announce that the agency has received its long awaited name change to the New York State Division of Veterans' Services!
But wait! There is more good news! we are excited to be hosting our 2nd Annual Celebration of Military Children in New York as April is the Month of the Military Child.If you would like to participate or just help spread the word, please check out the flyer attached for our 2nd Annual celebration taking place on April 17th in Albany, NY.
In June, we will have a Women Veterans Art Exhibit at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY where Women Veterans will showcase their masterpieces. There is also a flyer attached with information on how to participate.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all DVS staff for a wonderful response and putting in a herculean effort to honor and welcome home our Vietnam Veterans on Friday March 29th. In total, DVS staff attended or participated in over 35 events across the state!
The impact of the work you all do is felt not only every time we assist a Veteran or family member in our offices, but every time we go out into our communities and reach out to those we are here to help. With this in mind, I would like to share an email I received from one of our staff members. Thank you very much for your continued service to Veterans and their families.
“I haven't taken the time to thank you recently, Joel and Benjamin, for hiring me and allowing me to be a part of NYS DVS.
This morning, I took part in the reading of the names of the 1,741 NYC men and women who fell during the Vietnam War. The reading of the names was part of three commemorative events taking place in NYC for Vietnam Veterans Day on Saturday, March 23.
