The Essentia Health Deer River Clinic, whose workers are part of the SEIU union, are currently in tense contract negotiations. Essentia is preparing for a possible strike by trying to get our members to volunteer to be available to pick up work in Deer River. We urge everyone NOT to volunteer for any Deer River work. Don’t let Essentia use you as a possible strike breaker!

Since 2009, the Alberta Cancer Foundation has been raising donations for Cancer research through The Ride. This is a 200 km bike ride in Southern Alberta. All of the donations received are used in Alberta; over $75 million dollars have been raised to support the 17 cancer centres across the province since the first Ride.

There have been some changes to our union's Executive Board these past few months. Following the resignation of Stacy Spexet as president in December, Adam Ritscher moved into that role. Then at our January Executive Board meeting, we elected Deanna Hughes as our new Vice President. Deanna will be joining Adam as a full time staffer in the union's office. Deanna is a long time activist with the union who has served as a steward and as President of the Hayward Unit for many years. You can reach Deanna at [email protected].
The Women of Steel Committee will be in the cafeteria hallway selling breakfast burritos during shift turnover in the morning, 5- 6:30 AM, and in the afternoon, 1- 2:30 PM.
