February 26, 2019 - As we celebrate Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 27th, 2019, Local 1944 reaffirms its commitment to build bullying-free workplaces.
“Bullying keeps undermining our workplaces, as much as it does to our schools and our social networks,” said Isabelle Miller, President for USW Local 1944. “More often than not, it happens right before our eyes. Bullying has no place in an economy where companies do everything they can to crush their employees’ rights. As the working people, we cannot afford to be divided and to consider each other as the enemy; in our very best interest, we need to stand in solidarity for each other.”
Workplace bullying and harassment weakens solidarity among workers and threatens economic security. Targeted workers can suffer health impacts, which can result in poor performance, absenteeism, and ultimately, discipline.
Do you know a coworker that seems to be isolated from the rest of the team? This person might be bullied. In the workplace, fighting against bullying starts by questioning our own behaviour towards other workers.

Le 26 février 2019 - Le mercredi 27 février 2019, alors que nous célébrons la Journée du chandail rose, la Section locale 1944 réaffirme son engagement pour bâtir des milieux de travail sans intimidation.
« L’intimidation continue de saper nos milieux de travail, autant qu’elle sape nos écoles et réseaux sociaux, a déclaré Isabelle Miller, Présidente de la Section locale 1944 du Syndicat des Métallos. Le plus souvent, cela se produit sous nos yeux. L’intimidation n’a pas sa place dans une économie où les entreprises font tout ce qu’elles peuvent pour réduire les droits de leurs employés. En tant que travailleurs, nous ne pouvons pas nous permettre d’être divisés et de considérer l’autre comme un ennemi. Il est dans notre meilleur intérêt de nous montrer solidaires les uns avec les autres. »
L’intimidation et le harcèlement au travail affaiblissent la solidarité entre les travailleurs et menacent la sécurité économique. Les travailleurs ciblés peuvent subir des conséquences négatives sur leur santé, ce qui peut se traduire en performances médiocres, absentéisme et, en bout de ligne, sanctions disciplinaires.
Connaissez-vous un collègue qui semble isolé du reste de l’équipe ? Cette personne est peut-être victime d’intimidation. En milieu de travail, la lutte contre l’intimidation commence par la remise en question de nos propres comportements vis-à-vis des autres travailleurs.
