In February, Black History Month gives us the opportunity to recognize the contributions of the black community throughout the country.

Last year, the Canadian Labour Congress hosted a series of podcasts to commemorate Black History Month, including a French podcast with USW Local 1944 President Isabelle Miller speaking about people of colour in the labour movement. On Sunday, February 3, 2019, Sister Miller will be a panellist at the 2019 National Black Canadians Summit “Mapping Our Future – Face To Face With Our Lawmakers”. Many events are organized to celebrate Black History Month throughout Canada. The Civil and Human Rights Committee encourages our members to check the listing in your local communities to join in.
Stacy Spexet has been president of the local since July of 2010. Prior to that she was the vice president, and a CNA at the Essentia Health clinic in Spooner.

Adam Ritscher has been President since December of 2018. Prior to that he was elected Vice President in 2017, and was a Trustee from 2012 to 2017. Before becoming a full time officer of the local, he worked in Environmental Services at the Essentia Health Duluth Clinic.
The voting results are invalid. Unfortunately, the ballots did not coincide with the number of people who were signed in and checked in. There were a couple of more ballots than people. Therefore, the vote has to be done again. New voting dates will be posted ASAP.
Missy was hired May 31, 1995. She has held two postions in the local, Trustee & Recording Secretary. Nuetrality Agreement Organizing in Athens, TN, Columbia, MS and Wooster OH. Missy has attended and graduated from the Leadership Scholarship program given by the International.
