November 23, 2018 - November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which marks the beginning of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence in Canada.
USW Local 1944 plays an active role in the fight against gender-based violence. Your USW Local 1944 Women of Steel Committee is here for support, please reach out to the committee if you need help.
Our Local has heeded the call to support all women:
By engaging in political action to end violence,
By supporting the national inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women,
The economic and psychological costs of gender-based violence are tremendous, impacting national budgets, affecting companies’ revenues, and even more importantly, jeopardizing safety in the workplace. Each act of violence committed against a woman is violence committed against society as a whole. Thus, USW Local 1944 encourages our members to raise awareness of violence against women, to start the conversation, and to break with the status quo.
Learn how you can take action here, and join the conversation on social media by using the hashtags #orangetheworld and #HearMeToo. It is up to each and every one of us to become an advocate for gender equality.
