Recently, members of Unit 2311 of Local 1976 raised $5,000 to help their community after the tornado in Barrie. Photo and full story here.

Les Métallos de Barrie (Ont.) ont récemment recueilli 5000 $ pour les victimes d’une tornade qui a dévasté la localité.
«Nous prouvons que notre syndicat n’est pas indifférent et que nos membres restent fidèles à notre devise : Les Métallos sont de
bons voisins», a fait valoir Chris Thompson, secrétaire de l’unité 2311 de la SL 1976 TC-Métallos et livreur chez Canpar Express à Barrie.
La tornade du 15 juillet a laissé de nombreuses familles de Barrie sans abri et blessé plusieurs résidents. Heureusement, personne n’est mort.
La dévastation a incité Chris
à solliciter un don syndical du président de la SL 1976 Steve Hadden; la section locale a autorisé un montant de 1000 $. Le syndicat s’est aussi adressé au Fonds humanitaire des Métallos, qui a versé 2000 $. Ensuite, Chris a contacté son employeur, Canpar,qui a donné une somme égale à celle du Fonds humanitaire. Au total, 5000 $ sont destinés aux victimes de la tornade.
«Nous sommes heureux d’avoir vraiment pu aider», a ajouté Chris Thompson.

ESSENTIAL WORKERS AT SPECIAL METALS DESERVE A FAIR CONTRACT NOW!
On October 1, over 400 members of United Steelworkers Local 40 went out on an Unfair Labor Practice Strike against Special Metals.
These skilled workers showed up throughout the pandemic, ensuring continued production of critical supplies needed for national defense, aerospace and energy production.
In return for their hard work, Special Metals which is part of a massive global company, sought to cut workers’ wages and benefits and take away critical seniority and safety protections.
The Huntington nickel alloys facility is the largest of its type in the world. While all industries were impacted by the pandemic, business at this site picked up and is going strong.
These essential workers deserve a fair contract that honors their skill, sacrifice and seniority!
Together we can demand respect for essential workers!
