Good evening members and retirees of USW Local 5328.

Good evening all. 

 The committee met the company on Thursday. We are in the process of finalizing vacations for 2022 and the summer shutdown. Tentatively it’s the weeks of July 3 and 10. We will have more information by end of next week. 

 The company has hired a corporate recruiter. Any applications or resumes will go to Montreal. 

 We will be doing a plant gate collection next week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for Hamilton Food Share. Each dollar raised buys $5.00 in food.  The company has contributed $1,000 and the local contributed $250.

December 10, 2021 - Thursday, the final day of our Local Union Delegated Meeting, began with special guest speaker Tamara Ramusovic, a partner with the law firm Moore Edgar Lyster. She provided Delegates with an in-depth presentation regarding the legal requirement of employers to ensure a psychologically-safe work environment and how the Union can ensure that these requirements are enforced. With the intensifying pressures members are facing at work, the presentation contained lots of information Delegates will be able to use back on the job.

The LUDM heard reports from the Women of Steel Committee, the NextGen Committee, the Civil and Human Rights Committee and the Political Action Committee. From the Women of Steel Burnout campaign to the NextGen swag mailout, the Rights presentation at Unit Meetings and the Political Action Committee’s assistance to progressive political campaigns, each Committee showcased the progress they’ve helped the Local make on the Committees’ priority issues. 

In the afternoon, Delegates heard from Trustees and advisors of the Telecommunications Workers Pension Plan and Long Term Disability Plan, as well as the Employee Life and Health Plan, now known as MyUnionPlan@Work. Information was shared demonstrating the financial health of each of these plans and their benefits that they offer to members. In particular, Trustees and advisors of MyUnionPlan@Work implored Delegates to join that plan if they have not and to encourage others back home to do so, so that our members and their families will have this much-needed safety net available to them in case of injury or death. At good of the order, the Local’s amazing staff were commended by all in a standing ovation, and Delegates closed off an awesome convention with an almost pitch-perfect rendition of “Solidarity Forever”.

Thanks to all attendees and staff for a fantastic week of strength and solidarity. This was without a doubt our most energizing and successful Convention in decades, maybe even in our entire history.

December 10, 2021 - Jeudi, le dernier jour de notre Assemblée des Délégué(e)s de la Section Locale, a commencé avec la conférencière invitée Tamara Ramusovic, associée du cabinet d’avocats Moore Edgar Lyster. Elle a fait une présentation détaillée aux Délégué(e)s sur l'exigence légale des employeurs d'assurer un milieu de travail psychologiquement sain et sur les façons dont le syndicat peut s'assurer que ces exigences soient appliquées. La présentation contenait de nombreuses informations relatives à l'intensification des pressions auxquelles les membres sont confrontés au travail, que les Délégué(e)s pourront mettre à profit une fois de retour au travail.

L’ADSL a entendu les rapports du Comité des Femmes d’acier, du Comité Prochaine génération, du Comité des droits civils et droits de la personne, et du Comité d'action politique. De la campagne sur l’épuisement professionnel des Femmes d’acier aux envois postaux d’articles promotionnels Prochaine génération, en passant par la présentation sur les droits lors des assemblées d’unité et l’aide du Comité d’action politique lors de campagnes politiques progressistes, chaque comité a présenté les progrès qu’il a aidé la Section locale à réaliser en regard des enjeux prioritaires des comités.

Au cours de l'après-midi, les Délégué(e)s ont entendu les Fiduciaires et conseillers du Régime de pension des travailleurs(euses) en télécommunications et du Régime d’invalidité de longue durée, ainsi que de la Fiducie en soins de santé, maintenant connu sous le nom de MyUnionPlan@Work. Des informations ont été partagées démontrant la santé financière de chacun de ces régimes et les avantages qu’ils offrent aux membres. En particulier, les Fiduciaires et conseillers de MyUnionPlan@Work ont imploré les Délégué(e)s de rejoindre ce régime s'ils ne l'avaient pas fait, et d'encourager les autres à le faire, afin que nos membres et leurs familles bénéficient de ce filet de sécurité indispensable qui est mis à leur disposition en cas de blessure ou de décès. Durant les questions d’intérêt général, le personnel formidable de la Section locale a été félicité par une ovation debout, et les délégués ont clôturé ce congrès fantastique par une interprétation presque parfaite de « Solidarité à jamais ! ».

Merci à tous les participants et au personnel pour une semaine fantastique de force et de solidarité. Ce fut sans aucun doute notre congrès le plus énergisant et le plus réussi depuis des décennies, peut-être même de toute notre histoire.
