Hi Jamie. I'm sending positive thoughts from Windsor for an early end to the Steel Workers strike in Sudbury.
This takes me back to the summer of 2005 when the CBC locked us out for 2 months. I was on the national bargaining team, we had been at the table off and on for a year and a half - when they locked us out in August and kept us out for 2 months until the NHL season was starting and there was ad revenue to generate. I lost a lot of respect for the CBC for their callous behavior and treatment of their dedicated employees.
Eventually I retired earlier than I may have because of that lack of faith in my employer.
My positive thoughts I send your way are for strength on the picket line and trust in the USW bargaining team.
Strikes and lockouts are never easy as the Sudbury community knows only too well. Rest assured however that you have support for your labour community in all corners of our great Province. Please keep us informed of your progress - and let me know if there are ways we can assist in any way.
Hi Jamie please share this email to my Steelworkers Brothers and Sisters of local 6500. Having picketed myself and being a Steelworker member of local 1-2010 and have sat in numerous negotiations session and seen up close the greed of employers.
So Brothers and Sisters your fight is true and on the right side of history. Stay strong and Solidarity Forever. Solidarités mes Frères et Sœurs.
Green Book Update: The union and Essentia were slotted to hold a Green Book negotiations meeting tomorrow, but the company has cancelled it, claiming that they need more time to review the economic proposals that we presented to them at the end of the last session. We had been planning on asking our members to wear union stickers tomorrow to show their solidarity with the Negotiating Committee as we go into economics, but given the cancellation, we're going to put off the sticker action. The next scheduled Green Book negotiations are June 22, so that will be the day we ask our members to wear their union stickers. Let us know if you need a sticker!
