We finally got a full set of counter-proposals from Essentia today. After the Committee reviewed them, we a number of questions about possible oversights by the company. They acknowledged our concerns and ended up revising one their larger proposals twice. Even with these delays, we were able to give our counter response back at the end of the day. Included in our counter is a proposal addressing the discrepancies with our call pay. The union believes that everyone's time, spent away from work with our families (whether you're on call or not) is equally valuable regardless of what job title you have.
We had our second meeting with the company today. We're still in the early, non-economic phase of negotiations. Unfortunately, very little progress was made. One of the issues we're far apart on involves access to seniority lists. The company doesn't believe there is a problem, but we've gotten a number of complaints that it's getting difficult to get management to provide a seniority list in some departments. What has your experience with this been?
I started at Strattec in July of 2010 as a Tumbler in the Die Cast department. In early 2011 I transfered to the Stamping and Milling department as a Set Up Operator. I currently work in the Milling area on 2nd shift. In 2015 I ran for Strattec Grievance Representative unopposed replacing our previous Grievance Representative Diane Neely. I was re-elected to the position again in 2018. I am also involved in several Strattec and Local Committees. In 2019, following the resignation of Mike Henry, our Vice President, I was appointed to the position by vote of the Executive Board for the remainder of the term. Prior to comming to Strattec I was the Grievance Representative for UAW Local 1866 representing the Bargaining Unit workers at Delphi Automotive in Oak Creek, WI. I was elected President of our Local, replacing former President Jesse Edwards and sworn in May 2021.
