Thank you for taking part in our Union’s democratic process.
The Union was given the following update for the Briggs & Stratton Unit regarding the Covid Quarantine Policy.
Given the vaccine and testing availability, and lower positive case counts, the Company will be resuming it's standard Short Term Disability process and discontinuing the temporary COVID-19 paid leave benefits for self quarantine effective today 4/19/21. Anyone who is already on a paid quarantine will be allowed to complete it.
The company will still provide paid quarantine leave to any employee we place on quarantine due to contact trace exposure at work; and if someone tests positive, they would apply for Short Term Disability Benefits/FMLA through Prudential.
In a follow up phone call with H.R. the Union did confirm that members would still be able to self quarantine with no points assessed but would not qualify for the quarantine pay.
I would like to Congratulate everyone that was voted into office during this last election and thank everyone again that stepped up to make a difference in our union by running for office. These last 3 years have been one for the books with all of this Covid protocols we have been dealing with but at the same time we all have learned a lot along the way. During the next Union meeting on May 13th, we will be swearing in the new officers and have the grievance committee select the chairperson.

Profit share checks will be coming out at the end of May for the 5th consecutive quarter so nice work to everyone for all of your hard work as we have not seen this many consecutive profits in a very long time. In this Rank and File you will see a Message from our Vice President of the Union about the laws that were passed for Covid-19 pay, so if you were affected by covid since January or have to miss work for it in the future you will receive some compensation so look for this article and on the Unions web page for the details. Lastly thank you to everyone for the continued support and a Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Mothers and single parents of 1440.

The Local has forwarded the company “notice to bargain”. We are waiting for the company to reply to set up a meeting to agree to a date and protocol.
With that being said, the negotiating committee will be handing out a survey, or wish list, of what you would like in the next set of negotiations. Once you receive the survey, please fill it out, number each area by importance, and return it to one of us on the negotiating committee.
Tony Ciaramella, John Butler, Jeff Walker, Mike Hnatjuk and Jason Davey.
The company is also hiring a summer student for salary work in procurement. If you have a relative in university, forward resume to HR. 7-3 straight days. $18-$20 per hour.
