Our Local 7600 President and Vice President Valery Robinson & Liz Cuevas, alongside the Bargaining Committee, will open our local contract for the first time in 16 years! 

 By opening our local agreement, we can address key issues such as:

• Wage inconsistencies
• Shift Differentials
• Waive experience requirements when applying for internal positions
• Strengthen our grievance process

This year has been filled with unprecedented challenges but together, in unity and solidarity, we will fight hard to win the agreement we deserve. 

We are prepared to fight for these issues at the Local bargaining table. We can also elevate any unresolved issues from the Local Bargaining table, to the National bargaining table to use the strength of the entire Alliance of Healthcare Unions to win a fair contract!

8 mars 2021 - Aujourd’hui est la Journée internationale des femmes. Les femmes paient un lourd tribut depuis le début de la récession provoquée par la pandémie ; elles souffrent d’inégalités entre les sexes accrues sur le marché du travail et d’une recrudescence des violences domestiques. Au cours de la dernière année, les nombreuses sources de stress ont généré de l’épuisement professionnel et des problèmes de santé mentale chez de nombreuses travailleuses.

Éducation et réseaux pour les femmes 

Au cours des derniers mois, la Section locale 1944 et le Syndicat des Métallos se sont fortement concentrés sur la création d’outils éducatifs et de réseaux pour les femmes. Vous trouverez ci-dessous quelques outils pour en savoir plus sur les droits et les moyens d’action dont disposent les femmes, et comment entrer en contact avec d’autres travailleuses et travailleurs et militants.

• Tous les membres de la Section locale 1944 : Lisez les quatre publications spéciales du comité des Femmes d’acier sur l’épuisement professionnel. La publication #1 fournit des informations générales, #2 explique comment l’auto-assistance peut aider, #3 décrit comment l’épuisement professionnel peut vous affecter au travail, et #4 explique que faire lorsque les soins personnels ne suffisent plus. Veuillez contacter votre comité des Femmes d’acier si vous avez besoin d’aide.

• Membres en Alberta et en Colombie-Britannique : Rejoignez le Réseau des Femmes d’acier du District 3 des Métallos. Le but de ce réseau est de permettre à toutes les consœurs de se connecter avec d’autres consœurs de la section locale et de tout l’Ouest canadien. Ce n’est pas un comité, donc toutes les consœurs peuvent y adhérer. 

• Membres en Ontario : Le lundi 15 mars à 19 h 00 HAE, joignez-vous au Comité de la condition féminine du District 6 sur Zoom afin de vous renseigner sur la campagne Monter le niveau de la santé et sécurité des femmes. Vous écouterez...

March 8, 2021 - Today is International Women’s Day. Women have been paying a heavy price since the beginning of the pandemic-induced recession; they have suffered from increased gender inequality in the labour force and increased domestic violence. Many women workers have experienced burnout and mental health issues in the past year, with so many competing stresses to deal with.

Education and Networks for Women

Over the last few months, Local 1944 and the United Steelworkers focused heavily on creating education and networks for women. Below are some tools to know more about women’s rights and means of action, and to connect with other workers and activists.

• All Local 1944 members: Read the Women of Steel four publications on Burnout. Publication #1 reviews general information on burnout, #2 how self-help can assist, #3 how burnout could affect you at work, and #4 what to do when self-help is no longer working. Please reach out to your Women of Steel Committee if you need assistance.

• Members in Alberta and British Columbia: Join the USW District 3 Women of Steel Network. The goal of this Network is to allow all sisters to connect with other Sisters within the Local and across Western Canada. This is not a committee, so all Sisters can join.

• Members in Ontario: On Monday, March 15, at 7:00 pm EDT, join the USW District 6 Women’s Committee on Zoom to learn about the Raising the Bar on Women’s Health and Safety campaign. You will hear women talk about their successes and struggles, and discover tools and actions to make women’s work lives better. Sign up here to participate in this event, which will be in English with simultaneous French interpretation.
