The oil temper and straight and cut is going to 8 hours. There is no layoff from that change as the company is crewing up #2 oil temper line. We lose one on the base on straight and cut from 4 to 3 but we gain on in oil temp going from 20 to 21. This will take affect week of Feb 28.
With the above, the company is restructuring the supervisors. There will be, or should be a posting as to who will supervise what areas.
As mentioned in previous emails, due to covid, at this time, there will not be a March membership meeting, therefore nominations will be on paper to a collection box or the recording secretary. Nominations will open on March 9, 2021 and close at 4:00pm on March 11, 2021. There will be a posting with all information on the union board in the plant.
Retiree indexing cheques will be mailed out on February 26.

Seven members of USW Local 5000 from the Interlake Steamship Company recently completed Combined Basic & Advanced Fire Fighter training at the Northwest Regional Fire Training Center in Traverse City, Michigan.
The week-long course included three days of classroom instruction and two days of hands-on training including donning/doffing full firefighter turnout gear including SCBA air packs, CPR refresher training, search and rescue in a smoke-filled building, gas line fire training, and a live-fire simulator exercise.
Participants were afforded the opportunity to experience the live-fire simulation for approximately 25 minutes split between two evolutions. Of note, participants were required to don full turnout gear from street clothes in less than 2:30 - In the final exercise, all participants were able to don full turnout gear including SCBA in less than two minutes, with the fastest time being 56 seconds by Pat Joyce.
USW Local 5000 appreciates this opportunity afforded to our members by Interlake Steamship and wishes to thank the instructors at the Northwest Regional Fire Training Center for sharing their expertise and insight into firefighting. In the past few years, there have been five notable incidents involving shipboard fires on the Great Lakes, and this specialized training will be an asset to our members if they should ever encounter fire while aboard ship.

Due to extreme weather events across the nation as well as COVID protocols, Live Checks may be delayed by a couple days. I spoke with payroll this morning (2/19) and they wanted to let us know that the checks are still in Kentucky at this time and may not be to UPI until early next week. There is a chance they get them by Monday which may allow them to get them to you by Tuesday, but they have no way of knowing when they will be on site. Payroll is attempting to contact anyone who still receives a live check to go over your options. They strongly encourage you to sign up for direct deposit to avoid this in the future.
