Twelve contestants are tested in competitions at real-world job sites with tasks that test their strength, endurance, life skills and mental toughness. Contestants compete in 6-on-6 team challenges, individual competitions, and elimination battles, referred to as 'Overtime'. Unlike other reality competitions, contestants who lose elimination challenges do not leave the game and still have the opportunity to win additional prizes during team competitions. Each team competition gives the winning team $12,000 ($2,000 per member) and earns the team that challenge's Badge of Honor. The team that has collected the most Badges of Honor by the end of the season receives an additional cash bonus of $60,000 ($10,000 per member) If both teams have the same number of Badges of Honor, then they will hold a tiebreaker. In each episode, contestants compete in individual challenges in order to stay in the running for the grand prize. The lowest performers in each individual challenge are sent to Overtime, with the loser of the Overtime challenge eliminated from the individual competition (referred to in the show as 'punching out'). At the end of the season, one contestant is crowned the Tough as Nails champion and wins the grand prize of $200,000 and a Ford Super Duty truck. (Wikipedia, 2021)

Le 4 février 2021 - Le syndicat a appris par les agents des centres d'appels qu’il y avait des problèmes avec le codage des fériés de Noël 2020 (veuillez vous référer aux messages de la Présidente par intérim du 8 janvier et du 22 janvier). Nous sommes actuellement à la recherche d’informations, notamment auprès des membres, pour savoir si d’autres groupes de travail sont concernés. La compagnie a adopté la position définitive selon laquelle les membres ont été dédommagés par le report d’un jour férié banqué à l’année suivante au lieu de leur payer la prime de jour férié pour les heures travaillées le 28 décembre 2020.
Dans les centres d’appels, la Compagnie a comme pratique, bien avant l’événement, de demander à des volontaires de travailler le jour qui est chômé, ou dans le cas d’un jour férié tombant pendant la semaine de travail, le jour férié réel.
Depuis que la préparation des horaires de travail a été délocalisée à l’étranger, des erreurs ont parfois été commises. Auparavant, en cas d’erreur, comme pour le Jour du Souvenir en 2017, l’appel aux volontaires pour travailler s’appliquait au lundi 13 novembre 2017. Quelques jours avant le férié, un courriel avait été envoyé pour indiquer qu’il y avait eu une erreur et que seuls ceux qui travaillaient le 11 novembre recevraient la prime de jour férié. La compagnie avait résolu le problème en quelques jours, en donnant le choix aux employés de recevoir la prime de jour férié soit pour le 13 ou le 11, mais pas pour les deux jours.
À notre connaissance, il n’y a jamais eu d’appel aux volontaires pour travailler le samedi en échange d’une prime de jour férié. Lorsque le syndicat a informé Telus qu’il y avait des problèmes concernant le jour férié du 26 décembre 2020, la compagnie a répondu que quiconque travaillait le 26 décembre (le samedi) recevrait une prime de jour férié de fin d’année, et que ceux à qui la journée de travail du 28 décembre avait été imposée comme ceux qui s’étaient portés volontaires seraient dédommagés par le report d’un férié banqué à l’année suivante.
Votre syndicat n’est pas d’accord.

February 4, 2021 - The Union has heard from call centre agents that there were issues with Christmas 2020 Holiday coding (please refer to the Acting President’s Messages on January 8 and January 22). At this time, we are seeking information, including from members, to determine if other work groups are affected. The Company has taken a final position that members have been made whole by having been given a Holiday Banked Forward instead of paying Statutory Holiday Premium Pay for time worked on December 28th, 2020.
The Company’s practice in call centers is that, well before the event, they canvass for people to volunteer to work on the day being observed as the Holiday, or in the case of a Holiday falling during the work week, on the actual day of the Holiday.
Since scheduling was moved offshore, errors have on occasions been made. Previously when an error was made, such as Remembrance Day 2017, the canvass to work was for Monday, November 13th, 2017. Days before the Holiday, an email was sent stating there had been an error, and only those working November 11th would receive Premium Holiday Pay. Within days, the company resolved the issue. This was done by giving people a choice of either being paid Holiday Premium Pay on the 13th or the 11th, but not for both days.
To our knowledge, there has never been a canvass to work on a Saturday for Premium Holiday Pay. When the Union advised Telus that there were issues with the December 26th, 2020 Holiday, the company’s response was that anyone who worked December 26th (the Saturday) would be paid Premium Holiday Pay, and those who were force booked or volunteered to work on December 28th would be compensated with a Holiday Banked Forward.
Your Union disagrees with this.
Examples of Statutory Holiday Premium Pay are needed for the following dates:
Dec 28th, 2015
June 26th, 2017 (St-Jean-Baptiste Day Appendix B for the East)
July 3rd, 2017
If you keep written or screen shot records of your schedule please check the above dates. Your records will assist us in proving the error of the Company’s current position that they have never paid Statutory Holiday Premium Pay for a Statutory Holiday falling on a Saturday, where the following Monday was deemed the Holiday. This is an important issue to reach a resolve on, as in 2021 Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Saturday.
