The Tino Fulimeni Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of Brother Fulimeni. Tino was a fanatic about ICD. His commitment and contribution are evident in the success of the Career Development Program.

Je souhaite vous informer que Denise Chisholm a démissionné du Bureau exécutif de la Section locale 1944 pour des motifs personnels. Nous sommes reconnaissants pour toutes les années de militantisme que Denise a dédiées à notre section locale. Il y a peu de domaines de la représentation des membres auxquels Denise n’ait pas consacré ses compétences et ses efforts. Pendant presque deux mandats complets, elle a assuré les fonctions de Dirigeante exécutive régionale pour la Colombie-Britannique. Membre de nombreux comités de la section locale au cours de toutes ces années, elle était également depuis un peu plus récemment la Présidente du comité des Femmes d’acier et siégeait en tant que membre du comité de Classification et évaluation des emplois de bureau (JEMS). Elle était Syndic du Régime d’assurance vie et santé du STT, Section locale nationale 1944 des Métallos (My Union Plan @ Work). Par le passé, Denise avait également accepté la responsabilité de faire partie d’un comité de négociation, l’une des fonctions les plus intenses et stressantes dans lesquels un membre puisse s’engager.
Denise a récemment repris son poste chez Telus après avoir travaillé pendant une année à Lane Street sur divers projets de mobilisation de nos membres. Une autre mission couronnée de succès qu’elle a accomplie avec l’enthousiasme et la minutie qui lui sont caractéristiques. Ce fut un plaisir de travailler avec elle. À présent, après toutes ces années de militantisme, Denise envisage la retraite. Bien que ce ne soit pas dans un avenir immédiat, elle se réjouit de se préparer à la prochaine étape de sa vie. Nous souhaitons à Denise tout le meilleur.
Nous désirons également souhaiter la bienvenue à Alina Gherghinoiu, qui a été nommée pour combler le poste vacant de Dirigeante exécutive régionale de la Colombie-Britannique. Elle travaille chez Telus et est membre de la section locale depuis 2004. Alina est une militante de longue date, qui se bat au nom de ses collègues dans son milieu de travail et participe à notre Programme de perfectionnement en leadership des Métallos. Secrétaire de son Unité 51, la plus grande de notre section locale, elle est également membre des comités d’Action politique et des Femmes d’acier. Elle est aussi l’une de nos formatrices qui assure des formations syndicales à nos membres et à d’autres sections locales du Syndicat des Métallos. Alina s’apprête à présenter la dernière initiative de la section locale en ce qui concerne la formation en ligne. Dans cette nouvelle instance, elle assurera la formation de délégué(e) syndical(e) de niveau 1 en se basant sur un tout nouveau programme qui a été conçu et développé en partenariat avec le Syndicat des Métallos tout en prenant en compte les besoins de la Section locale 1944. Alina vise toujours plus haut.

I wish to inform you that Denise Chisholm has resigned from the Local 1944 Executive Board owing to personal reasons. We are grateful for all of the many years of activism that Denise has given to our Local. There are few areas of membership representation that Denise has not turned her skills and effort to. She served for almost an entire two terms as a Regional Executive Officer for BC. In addition to being a member on many Local committees throughout the years, she most currently was Chair of the Women of Steel Committee and sat as a member on the Jems committee. She was an ELHT (My Union Plan @ Work) Trustee. Denise also had accepted the responsibility of serving on a past Bargaining Committee, one of the most intense and stressful duties a member can take on.
Denise recently returned to her position at Telus after serving in Lane Street doing project work for a year to engage our members. Another successful task that she took on with her typical enthusiasm and attention to detail. It has been a pleasure to have served with her. Now, after all of these years of activism, Denise is turning her sights to retirement. Although not in the immediate future, she is excitedly thinking about what that is going to look like in her next stage in life. We wish Denise all the best.
We would also like to welcome Alina Gherghinoiu who has been appointed to fill the vacancy of Regional Executive Officer BC. She has been with Telus and a member of the Local since 2004. Alina has long been an activist, fighting for her peers in the workplace and is a participant in our Leadership Development Student Program. Along with being the Secretary of her Unit 51, the largest in our Local, she is a member of the Political Action and Women of Steel Committees. She is also one of our facilitators that delivers Union training to our membership and other Local Unions under the United Steelworkers (USW) umbrella. Alina is about to deliver the Local’s newest endeavour with online learning. She will be training Shop Steward Level 1 in this new forum using brand new material designed and developed in partnership with the USW but with the needs of Local 1944 in mind. Alina is always striving for more.

The Fund is administered by ICD in Merrillville, IN. The following criteria must be met to be eligible for the scholarship drawing:
Applicant must be a 2021 high school graduate enrolled in college in the fall semester of 2021 or a college student returning to school in the fall semester of 2021 or spring semester of 2022.
Applicant must have maintained, in the past, at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average and can demonstrate this with a transcript if selected.
Applicant must be the child/grandchild of a United Steelworkers member who is currently eligible to participate in the Career Development Program.
