Local 5000 has learned of a fire that broke out aboard the M/V Roger Blough, of Key Lakes, Inc.
Local 5000 has not had any official reports as to the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
Smoke was seen coming from M/V Roger Blough at Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin Monday morning. (DoorCountyDailyNews.com)
News reports indicate that the fire broke out at about 0200 local time and was extinguished as of Monday afternoon.
We do know that there have been no injuries as a result of this fire according to reports we have received this morning, and sources have informed us that the M/V James R. Barker along with another ore carrier has been moved away from the M/V Roger Blough as a precaution.
We will continue to monitor the situation and bring you further information when it becomes available.

Cette formation de 3 jours, développée par la Section locale 1944 du Syndicat des Métallos conjointement avec le Bureau national canadien des Métallos, est assurée par une équipe d’instructeurs de la Section locale 1944 et des Métallos.
Le cours est ouvert à tous les membres en règle qui sont ou souhaitent devenir délégués syndicaux, ou qui sont curieux de savoir si le rôle de délégué syndical leur correspond.
Les membres peuvent s’inscrire à ce cours même s’ils ont déjà participé à l’un des cours précédents de délégué syndical de niveau 1. La Section locale a l’intention d’offrir ces cours jusqu’à ce que tous les membres qui souhaitent y participer en aient eu l’opportunité.

February 1, 2021 - We are very excited to announce USW Local 1944’s first ever program of cross-country, VIRTUAL Shop Steward Level 1 training, using a brand new, practical curriculum created specifically for Local 1944’s unique needs.
It is a 3-day course, developed between USW Local 1944 and the USW Canadian National Office, and is facilitated by a combination of Local 1944 and USW instructors.
The course is open to all members in good standing who are, or wish to become, shop stewards, or are curious about whether the role of steward would suit them.
Members can register for this course even if they have taken a previous Shop Steward Level 1 course. The Local intends to run these courses until all members who wish to take it have had the opportunity.

The first 3 classes will take place on the following dates:

U.S.W. members and friends worked together to provide a Christmas for children of our membership. With donations and many volunteers the event was a success in many ways.
