We are the United Steelworkers, North America’s largest industrial union. We’re 1.2 million members and retirees strong in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. We proudly represent men and women who work in nearly every industry there is.
Your Bargaining Committee is scheduled for negotiations with the Medical Center on February 2,2021. We will once again insist on terms for a fair and equitable labor contract.
As the Coronavirus savagely ravishes through the hospital risking our lives, our families’ lives, and the lives of those around us, the Medical Center has shown little interest in providing us - united and strong essential workers - any hazard, pay, retro pay or a decent wage increase. We won’t stand for this. The Union is taking the Medical Center to task for their disrespect and disregardfor our labor agreement.
We have filed a grievance and are considering other actions for management’s refusal to follow our contract when they created the Nursing Tech/PCA position.
We will continue to stand together in unity and empowered, demanding simply what we deserve as loyal and committed employees - a fair and equitable contract!
UNITY and STRENGTH for WORKERS - USW - UNITED STEELWORKERS, AFL-CIO
Thank you everyone for exercising patience as I try to work through the Holiday coding issues with Telus (see previous Acting President’s Message here).
They are firm in their position that they made an honest mistake and that they corrected that mistake by applying the language of the collective agreement.
They do not believe harm was caused to anyone.
We do not hold the same view as Telus.
As such, rest assured that we are exploring every avenue available to us to hold them to account. We have already sought a legal opinion on this issue, and I will provide an update in short order.
