It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Dane in his 87th year. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Smilja. Beloved father to Srbo (Dianne), Slobodan (Maryann) and Danka (Tom) Vukovic. Cherished Deda to Stefanie, Steven, Ilijana, Aleksija, Dimitrie and Nikolina. Survived by sister-in-laws Stana (late Stevo), Dragica (late Nedo) Kiperovic and brother-in-law Stevo (late Dusanka) Lukic. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews here and abroad, as well as Kumovi Kangrga. Predeceased by parents Nikola and Jelka and siblings Stevo, Jelka and Milos. After 31 years of employment at Stelco Parkdale Works, Dane enjoyed 27 years of retirement spent with family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for his humour, jokes and quick wit. He enjoyed the outdoors up north and sharing a drink with everyone. Since his arrival to Canada, Dane has been a dedicated member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church (Barton St.). Due to Covid-19 Regulations, all services will be private.
From USW Local 5328 members and retirees to the Levnaic family " May our condolences bring you comfort and may our prayers ease the pain of this loss. "
No longer. Most companies eliminated defined-benefit plans providing a reliable income stream and implemented 401(k) plans that leave workers at the mercy of stock market volatility, like the kind that rattled investors this week and crushed workers in 2008. “Our movement began with concerns about transparency and limited career opportunities, but it now has even greater urgency as it’s expanded to address furloughs, pay cuts, and safety issues resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Katie Pirilla, an art handler at the Carnegie Museum of Art. “Workers continued organizing throughout the pandemic and found renewed strength in our fight for a safe museum for employees and the public alike.”

We would like to take a quick moment to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy, and prosperous holiday season.
While some of us are able to join the majority of the working population enjoying this time at home with their families, many of our members continue to face cold temperatures, rough weather, and difficult conditions to keep the raw materials flowing from mine to mill, doing the work that our nation relies upon to remain strong. This year has certainly presented several challenges, many of which we continue to face, but as Steelworkers, we have faced these challenges head-on to support our families and our nation.
I would like to thank all that donated to Erichs Cupboard toy and food drive, an incredible amount of items!! Money collected for Hamilton Food Share was a fantastic $760.00!! That amounts to $3800 in food!! Well done!!
On behalf of the executive and committees, I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous, Covid free New Year!! A much deserved break!!
Let’s make 2021 about unity and strength! Our Union as never needed it more!!
Well it’s wind down time for the Christmas holidays. A lot different from what we are used to with Covid but it’s nice to have the time off.
To the brothers laid off, I hope this doesn’t last long and we get back to precovid times!! Keep your head up brothers! I hope you received your “registered letters” for recall, as stated in the CBA, 7.11 (c).
Retirements for next week! I would like to congratulate and wish a happy healthy retirement to,

Many have received a letter from ArcelorMittal corporate in regards to the Defined Benefits Pension plan. Basically what it’s saying is, the pension plan is over funded and the company is allowed to take what’s called a, “contribution vacation”, according to the USW legal staff. What they will do instead is invest, what they would have contributed, into insurance annuities. It’s legal and has no impact to anyone’s pension at all but those in the DBP plan must be notified.
