Local 499-1 and Solvay have completed negotiations, and on Monday Oct. 12, a new collective bargaining agreement was voted on and approved. Members have expressed satisfaction with the new contract.
St. Luke's Tech Negotiations Update: Today was out fourth meeting for contract negotiations with St. Luke’s and day one of economic negotiations. After being able to wrap up non-economic (language changes) in only 3 days, we were optimistic that these negotiations would go smoother than in years past. That seems not to be the case as the Company is asking for some rather substantial concessions concerning the economic areas of the contract:
• Eliminating the current Health Insurance options for USW members and offering only the plan available to non-contract employees.
• Granting “super seniority” to those techs that the company deems as more qualified and “essential” than other techs in the same job classification who have more total seniority. Thus, allowing the newer techs to be bypassed for involuntary layoffs.
• Reduce the call back pay rate from time and one half to straight time.
• A total of 1% wage increases over 3 years, with no retro pay. (Yes, that’s ONE percent).
The Negotiating Committee is interested in hearing your thoughts on all this. Email us at: [email protected]
