September 14, 2020 - Today’s bargaining session opened with comments from the Local’s President Donna Hokiro followed by those from the Company. This is an extremely unique round of bargaining in that the parties are not all in the same room together. Your committee were all together in a socially distanced fashion in the large boardroom at the Union office with President Hokiro in Edmonton who joined the deliberations virtually. Shaw’s committee was together in a large boardroom at a Shaw office. We are using Zoom video conferencing.
Both parties expressed a desire to achieve a respectful agreement and that if talks break down, we’d follow the federally regulated process of conciliation at the Board prior to any labour dispute action.
As is common in most rounds of bargaining, the monetary proposals will not be exchanged until the non-monetary topics are dealt with. As you all know, money gets dealt with last.
Both sides at the table have had a chance to clarify the intent of their tabled proposals and will spend tomorrow preparing responses.
These are the things discussed today that we will engage more fully on:
• Overtime Meals • Banked OT • Warehouse Position • TVH Policy • Severance Pay/Automation • CPE • GDOs • Aligning agreement end date with Vancouver and Surrey
As always, solidarity is the key to all successfully negotiated contracts and we look forward to seeing the solidarity actions!
#NoFear
In solidarity,
Your bargaining team Keller Reeves Rob Wall James Large Steve McWhirter – Local Union Representative Jayson Little – Staff Representative Scott Lunny – Staff Representative Donna Hokiro – National President
September 18, 2020 - It is because of you and your solidarity, that we are making headway at the bargaining table. Thank you for proudly displaying our NO FEAR stickers.
September 18, 2020 - September 30 marks the one year anniversary of IBEW 213 members on strike against Ledcor LTS for a fair contract and dignity. There are three ways for you to take action:
Join the social media campaign #ShameOnLEDCOR Print the sign, and post a photo on your social media, showing LEDCOR that you support a fair contract for workers! Share and use the hashtags: #Solidarity #UnionStrong #IBEW213 #IBEW #FairContractNow #ShameOnLEDCOR
HONK for FAIRNESS, DRIVE for DIGNITY car rally Wednesday, September 30, 2020 10:30 am-noon 1435 Broadway Street, Port Coquitlam Drive through and honk or bring your mask and flags. Join IBEW 213, BC Federation of Labour President Laird Cronk, NWDLC S-T Janet Andrews, Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West, and Community Savings CU President and CEO Mike Schilling standing in solidarity with workers.
Not on social media, can’t make September 30? No problem! IBEW 213 members are on the picket lines Monday-Saturday 8:00 am-4:00 pm at 1435 Broadway Street, Port Coquitlam, and Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:00 pm at 1055 West Hastings, Vancouver. Drive by and honk your support!
Please share these actions widely with fellow union members and your community.
Contract negotiations between the St. Luke's hospital in Duluth and the Steelworkers are going to start at the end of this month. If you'd like to talk to the union before negotiations kick off, we're inviting folks to make an appointment to come down to our office (either individuals or small groups). We are available to meet from 10am into the evening on Sept. 21, 22 and 23, or from 3-5pm on Sept. 24. You'll need to make an appointment though so that we can make sure not to double book and to arrange to let you in to the building (which is locked to the public due to the pandemic).
If you haven't had a chance to drop off your contract survey, you still can during those times, or by mailing them in. Our office is at: USW 9460, 2002 London Road #200, Duluth MN 55812. You can reach us via this facebook page, sending an email to [email protected] or by calling (218) 724-5223.
