As we continue to make our rounds throughout the plant, many of you may have already heard, we received the ruling on the LMP Arbitration. Due to the effects of COVID-19 in our economy and steel industry, the Arbitrator ruled the Company’s LMP was more reasonable and will remain in effect. However, we did receive a partial ruling in Burns Harbor’s favor. We are currently in a holding pattern until we receive clarification on the details of this ruling. If there are any disputes concerning the remedy, the Arbitrator maintains jurisdiction for a 90-day period. He did not make a ruling on the issue of SUB-pay as it is outside of the realm of the LMP, addressed in a separate section of the BLA and is currently still in the grievance procedure.
As we begin working our way throughout Plate, we have been met with questions regarding order entry. I understand everyone is concerned about lay-offs during these uncertain times. However, while future orders for Plate remain modest, we still anticipate minimal layoffs for the upcoming week.
We continue to make significant progress in Iron Producing. While we cautiously bring D Furnace up, we are optimistic that we will soon be reaching our production goals.
COVID-19 is still a concern for all of us. It remains crucial we continue to practice social distancing and be diligent in proper hygiene. In areas where 6 feet of distance cannot be maintained, please use face coverings to protect yourself and others. If you feel you may have been exposed or are experiencing symptoms, please call Human Resources at (219) 787-2512. Our respect for each other during these turbulent times will help us overcome.
In Solidarity, Pete Trinidad Sr. USW 6787 President
