Georgia Pacific – Crossett, AR

On December 6, 2016, a member of local 3-369 received multiple injuries and a fractured leg while working at Georgia Pacific in Crossett, AR. The complete details are unknown, but preliminary information is that an Operator 1 in the Woodyard assisted a contractor in changing a tire for the railcar mover. As the contractor was airing up the tire, the multi-pieced rim wheel came apart and struck the Operator causing serious multiple injuries.

Neither the contractor nor the mill had a protective cage on site to place the tire and rim wheel inside for inflation as required by the OSHA Standard 29 C.F.R. 1910.177. Procedures and training (and/or refresher training) are also of concern for both exposed employees.

Emergency Response Team Member, Charleeka Thompson, will assist the families.  Health Safety and Environment Staff, Steve Sallman, will assist the local with the investigation.
