USW Local 2-15 – Expera Specialty Solutions – Rhinelander, WI – On October 16, 2016, an employee was injured when her right arm was pulled into the wind-up shaft/drum nip.
On October 16, 2016, an employee was injured when her right arm was pulled into the wind-up shaft/drum nip. She was starting a new roll on the winder and reached near the nip on the right side of the roll to so she could feel the edge of the roll for a good cut. The employee’s arm was pulled into the nip. The rewinder was running at 100 FPM when her arm was pulled into the nip. She received third degree burns to the inside of her right bicep. The victim was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander, WI where she was treated and released. She is not expected to require skin grafts.
Health Safety and Environment staff, Steve Sallman, is assisting the local with the investigation.
