Worker loses fingers in IP mill accident

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (From news reports) -- A man working at the International Paper Co. mill in Georgetown, SC reportedly lost several fingers in an accident Monday morning.
The worker's hands became trapped in a roller at about 9 a.m., resulting in the loss of several fingers, the newspaper's coverage said. He was later transported by helicopter to a hospital in Charleston, SC for treatment by a hand surgeon.
It was reported that both of the man's hands were crushed in the equipment.
The man's amputated fingers were retrieved from the scene, the Times said.
Operated under International Paper's North American Papers Division, the Georgetown Mill opened in 1937 and currently has a headcount of some 600 workers, according to information on the company's website.
