Local 1944 has several committees that work on specialized areas to strengthen the union by making recommendations, engaging members, organizing events, and protecting members' rights in the workplace. Learn more about the various committees below.

1. Civil and Human Rights Committee
Local 1944 Civil and Human Rights Committee is seeking members in good standing for appointment to the Committee.
The Committee generally meets 4 times a year either in person or by web conference. You would be expected to keep yourself informed on current civil and human rights issues within your workplace as well as communicate these issues to the rest of the committee.
It is preferred that members have experience in the area of human rights and/or respectful workplace, are good communicators and have a strong desire to protect the rights of others.
Consideration is to be given to ensure regional representation on the committee.
The Committee currently requires:
- 1 member from Ontario
- 1 member from Quebec
- 1 alternate member from Ontario
- 1 alternate member from Quebec

2. Next Generation Committee
Local 1944 is looking for young members under the age of 35 to participate in our Next Generation Committee. The purpose of this committee is to reach out to our young members in an effort to better address their needs and concerns. Members of this committee will meet via teleconference to discuss relevant issues and to make recommendations on what the union can do to better promote the participation of our Next Generation members.
The Committee currently requires:
- 1 member from Alberta
- 1 member from Ontario
- 1 member from Quebec

3. Women of Steel Committee
Our Women of Steel committee mandate is to work in solidarity with sisters and brothers to raise awareness of women's issues; increase the involvement and participation of women in the union; support organizing and outreach efforts in the community; support union campaigns for women's equality and progressive political change.

4. Political Action Committee
Local 1944 Political Action Committee is seeking members in good standing for appointment to the Committee. The Committee will generally meet by teleconference. You will be expected to become involved in political action in your surrounding community.
It is preferred that members have experience in organizing planned actions, are good communicators and have a strong desire to involve people in political action and action campaigns. Consideration will be given to ensuring regional representation on the Committee.
