This month has started off with a new approach and different vision. We were able to report a profitable first quarter with the expectation of a rewarding second quarter to follow. The 9/1/18 United Steelworkers Basic Labor Agreement (BLA) provides for a profit-sharing pool of 7.5% of the company’s profits, defined as Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT). The Company reported an unaudited adjusted EBIT of $106,832,880.15. As a result, there was $8,012,466.01 in profit sharing generated for the pool using the Basic Labor Agreement calculations.
Fifty years ago, on April 28th 1971, Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act promising every worker the right to a safe job. Every year on this date we observe Worker’s Memorial Day. This day is to remember those who have died, been injured or made ill by their work. Cleveland-Cliffs’ Burns Harbor, Indiana Harbor and Riverdale locations (the “Hiring Locations”) will be accepting applications for hourly bargaining unit Utility Person positions to maintain a pool of candidates for potential future job openings. After almost eleven years of back and forth, we are finally seeing the genesis of the highly anticipated Walking Beam Furnaces as we successfully produced Hot Band Coils yesterday in the Hot Mill out of Furnace #4. This addition to our plant did not come without sacrifice and for this, you should be commended. Moving forward, we will continue to engage the Company to agree to an interim incentive plan as we collect data to base the future incentive plan on.
