UNDERSTAND YOUR HEALTH CARE OPTIONS BEFORE YOU RETIRE
If you’re a USW-represented employee thinking about retirement in 2017, understanding the healthcare coverage available to you during retirement is an important step in your planning. Be sure to read the following pages for a general overview of coverage, which starting January 1, 2017, will be provided through Aetna.
Attend an Informational Meeting or Listen in on a Conference Call
We are hosting meetings in various locations across the country for current USW-represented retirees and you’re welcome to participate. We’ll connect you with representatives from U. S. Steel and Aetna and answer any questions you have. Details and dates are attached.

PRE-MEDICARE: Aetna PPO Medical Benefits with Prescription Drugs
If you are not eligible for Medicare at retirement, the medical and prescription drug coverage available to you will be provided through Aetna starting January 1, 2017. You and your pre-Medicare dependents have the option to select the Aetna PPO medical plan option and/or the Aetna pharmacy option. You may elect medical only coverage, pharmacy only coverage, or both medical and pharmacy coverage (see attached chart). You will have the option of paying your monthly premiums to Aetna or authorizing Aetna to debit your checking or savings account each month.
MEDICARE: Aetna Medicare Advantage PPO Medical Benefits with Prescription Drugs
If you are Medicare eligible at retirement, the medical and prescription drug coverage available to you will be provided through Aetna starting January 1, 2017. You and your dependents have the option to select the Aetna Medicare Advantage PPO medical plan option and/or the Aetna pharmacy option. You may elect medical only coverage, pharmacy only coverage, or both medical and pharmacy coverage (see attached chart). You will have the option of paying your monthly premiums to Aetna or authorizing Aetna to debit your checking or savings account each month.
AETNA’S RETIREE SERVICE CENTER AND RETIREE BENEFITS PORTAL
If you elect Aetna’s coverage at retirement, you’ll have access to a dedicated Retiree Service Center open on weekdays from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. ET. You’ll also have 24/7 access to your Aetna plan benefits, costs, helpful tools, and billing information through Aetna’s Retiree Benefits Portal. Details on both of these valuable resources will be provided in Aetna’s enrollment package.
