President’s Update 04-08-2020

4/8/20

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

I wish I had some positive news to share but at this point this is the boat we all are in.  We are still in negotiations to try to secure some leave and other benefits due to the covid-19 pandemic for the membership.  We had meeting with the company and are waiting on a response.  Our legislators have not been worried about the bigger businesses and as such we have been left out to dry.  I encourage you to contact our legislators and tell them what a shity job they are doing!

Our sales outlook has turned drastically for the worst in the last 48 hrs.  As of now threw ports we ship into in Africa, India, and Mexico are now closed to importation of soda ash due to the global pandemic.  While we remain optimistic that we will be able to ride this out, we all need to be cognizant of the current market and realize that a workforce reduction “lay-off” could happen.  I do not mean to sound the alarm and a lay-off is not imminent but I would advise the membership that it is definitely a possibility and you should act as such.  Hopefully this never happens and you just save a little money to go on vacation when this is all over.

We are doing our best to pass information along as quickly as we can and I am sure this post will leave many of you with question.  At this point it is just a possibility. Please do your best to work safely and keep your mind on the task at hand.  We will get through these trying times as a local, community, and lastly as a country!

In Solidarity

Mike Hernandez
