Sept. 18: Cliffs Aims to Raise Health Care Costs

Proposal Includes Premiums, Design Changes, Would Spike Out-of-Pocket Payments

Our USW-Cliffs bargaining committee held more negotiating sessions with the company this week, during which the company presented us with more details about its economic and benefits proposals.

The company has proposed monthly health care premiums as well as changes to the design of our health care coverage that would significantly increase out-of-pocket costs for USW members.

While the company’s economic proposal also included some modest wage increases and bonuses, it is totally unnecessary and insulting to include concessionary health care proposals that would increase health care costs for our members and their families.

The simple fact is that we deserve better! Our locals stepped up and helped Cliffs three years ago when times were tough. Now that the industry has turned a corner and the company is doing better, workers deserve to share in that success.

Our CAT coordinators are regularly circulating updates about bargaining, so please continue to stay in touch with them to be certain that you have the latest and most reliable information. The only way we can achieve the best possible contract is if we remain strong and united. Solidarity works!
