Good Morning Union Siblings,
Local 2801 would like to share these bargaining updates with you regarding negotiations with Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
- The Union has been bargaining for our members to improve their working conditions, safety and livable wages.
- In negotiations, the medical center and their chief negotiator have proposed contract language that works to limit your ability to discuss union issues with the local while in break rooms. This is unacceptable. Members have the right to talk about union issues in their break rooms.
- The medical center is trying to take away your right to sue them for many different things, including your right to sue for wrongful termination
- In bargaining sessions, the medical center has made it difficult for negotiations to progress. They have refused to discuss certain parts of the contract unless we agree to terms that would involve giving up some of our rights as a union.
- We have made every effort to make meaningful progress towards a new contract, including getting a federal mediator involved in our sessions.
- The medical center wants to reduce the time we have to introduce new members to the Union. They also want to dictate what materials we give to new members, and what we say to them.
- The medical center wants to change the existing language in our contract pertaining to layoffs. Can we trust the hospital to control the layoff process and decide who gets laid off without input from the union?
- Wages are important to all our members and their families. We have filed grievances alleging that the medical center is currently violating our CBA by not paying our lowest paid members at least 30% above the current minimum wage for healthcare workers in California. Why are they trying to offer a mere .50 cent raise when we deserve so much more? Why are they offering such paltry salaries to frontline healthcare workers, who gave and sacrificed so much during the pandemic for their patients?
