Tentative Agreement Q & A

When will I get my pay increase?

If the tentative agreement is accepted (ratified) by the membership, pay increases will be effective the first full pay period immediately following ratification (April 16).

How much of an increase will I receive?

  • Employees with 2-years or more of service, under progression level 21: Will see an approx. 3% in April and another approx. 2% July 1, 2021. Additionally, wage increases of 2.5% are provided July 1st of each year thereafter (2022 & 2023) – approximately 10% in total periodic wage increases over the term of the contract.
  • Employees at progression level 21: Will receive wage increases totaling approx. 3% by July 1, 2021, and an additional approx. 1% pay by lump sum on ratification. On July 1, 2022, 2023, progression 21 employees will receive wage rate increases of approx. 1.5%, and lump sum payments of approx. 1%.
  • Employees who received the January 2021 contractually required 130% minimum wage multiplier increase: Will receive an additional increase if the 130% multiplier increase you received in January was less than the improvements discussed above. For example, if you received a January increase of 2%, you will receive approximately 1% in April and 2% in July (approx. 5% total). You will also receive the 2.5% increases in 2022 and 2023 based on the wage rate and progression grid.

What are the next steps?

We have mailed the proposed terms to each USW member’s home. The packet you receive will include a written summary with wage grid examples, and the revised wage grid.

Also enclosed in your packet is a ballot and a self-addressed, postage paid return envelope. Mark your ballot with your vote and put it in the envelope provided, seal the envelope, and drop it in the mail right away.

When your ballot is received at our offices in Covina, CA, it will be placed in a secure ballot box and counted by USW Local 2801 members on April 16, 2021.

DON’T WAIT, VOTE EARLY!   All too often - those who choose to wait, fail to vote in time.

What happens if members reject the Tentative Agreement?

The Tentative Agreement you are now being asked to vote on is fully and unanimously supported by your Union Negotiating Committee. We recommend a YES – APPROVED vote.

Voting to reject the Tentative Agreement would set us back where we were. We’d have to set new dates and continue to negotiate. The terms we have negotiated today are conditioned on us ratifying now. These terms expire (off the table) if we fail to ratify now.

If we believed that rejecting the current offer would result in larger improvements, we would not have brought the terms to you for ratification with our unanimous recommendation to VOTE YES - APPROVE.
