U.S. Steel Reaches Settlement with OSHA on USW members Disciplined Over Injury Reporting Policy

OSHA has entered into an agreement with U.S. Steel resolving a lawsuit alleging two workers were wrongfully suspended for violating the company’s immediate injury or illness reporting policy. OSHA investigated plants in Clairton and West Mifflin, Pa., after the workers filed complaints. OSHA found the company violated Section 11(c) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act when it retaliated against the workers for reporting workplace injuries several days after the incidents occurred.

USW welcomed the June 28th U.S. Department of Commerce affirmative preliminary countervailing duty determination on truck and bus tire imports from China for trade petitions filed Jan. 29. Leo W. Gerard, USW International President, said: “Today’s federal determination confirms what our petitions alleged – that Chinese tire producers are receiving a wide array of government subsidies and exporting those subsidized tires to the United States.
